The East of Iceland region offers fjords, small fishing ports, and hiking, lots and lots of hiking. It is full of historic charm and very sparsely inhabited. The points of interest are countless and the landscapes wild and a hostile beauty, and it is in the eastern fjords that you will find the sunniest microclimates.
Two of the most famous and visited fjords in this area are Seydisfjorður or Bakkagerði. Viknaslodir's hiking trails are also some of the most renowned in the country.
If you came to see reindeer, well this is the only place to see them in Iceland, and if you came for the snowy woods, the Hallormsstadur forest is one of the few on the island. The Stuðlagil Canyon, discovered in 2017, is also not to be missed!
Overall, you have to admire all the fjords!
